My Writing Sample for Literacy 2021 - Maggie Mackintosh
What was 2020 like ?
2020, where do I begin.
The year started as a plus. Holidays, hangouts, school and carrying on life as normal. We were able to talk, touch and most importantly see everyone we loved. Until the months went by and world wide news went viral. “this is a covid 19 announcement” we started to get to know this new little creation which destroyed us and many people. Covid 19 spread fast and before we knew anything about it we were sitting on the couch in the living room with hardly anyone going past and getting bored out of our brains.
Everyday was the same. Family time they called it, but actually we had no choice. We were stuck in our household for 4 weeks !! And let me tell you, these four weeks were very unusual. School had changed to even more digital communication, friends were together over the phone and all the bikes in the shed weren't just sitting around, they were getting used nearly every single day. So I guess I could say the bike thing was a little positive chance of exercise.
But covid 19 affected many things. Thousands of jobs had to stop running and people were not earning enough money. The normal day to day things stopped as well, our busy lives slowed down and stopped! We were only allowed to to attend a few main places when needed, and everyone was panic buying. But since only a minimal amount of shops were open, multiple businesses struggled. They couldn't afford to pay all the staff and had to let them go.
As we came to the end of the set 4 weeks, covid 19 in new zealand had settled down a little and the government changed the rules to level 3 for two more weeks. This level basically had the same rules except you could make your bubble bigger. I definitely would have known who I was to put in my bubble, but except I didn't get to choose. But this level started to feel a little like normal. I was able to see and hug some of my family members and bike around to properly visit them.
Things were really starting to fit back in until one of those things was school. I'm not saying I didn't want to go back to school, as I am sick of all the google hangouts and emails. But it was really weird. There were stickers placed out on the table for seating spacers and every teacher would come round every class and squirt your hands with hand sanitiser. This was often annoying but I can understand.
So in fairness covid 19 Is nothing I want back again. It changed lives and got famous very quickly. 2020 was hit hard, but everyone's main point of view was to think of the positives and make the most of this time.
Why did I choose this piece of learning evidence ?
I choose this piece of writing as I found that I wrote this really well. I described the main part of 2020 for me in depth and enjoyed writing my perspective of covid in a form that I am proud of.
